Our Impact | Central Calaveras Volunteer Firefighters Assoc.

Water tender on day 5 of the 2026 Calaveras County Gann fire. Taken by JD Wheeler

Locally known as Central Calaveras Firefighters Association (CCFA)

The Central Calaveras Firefighters Association (CCFA) is an independent community organization created by and for our local crew and neighbors. While we are not a municipal fire department, we exist to stand behind our local firefighters—providing the extra support, boosted morale, station comforts, and community events that keep our crew strong and connected.

1. Firefighter Morale & Station Comfort

Firefighting is taxing, high-stress work. CCFA steps in to provide the extra amenities, and morale boosts that standard municipal budgets don't cover.

  • Upgraded Tools & Convenience Items: Purchasing non-mandatory equipment, specialized gear add-ons, and station conveniences that make daily duties and long shifts smoother for our crew.

  • Morale Initiatives: Fostering a supportive environment for our firefighter family to connect, recharge, and unwind through association-sponsored events and appreciation efforts.

2. Community & Crew Connection

We act as the bridge connecting local residents and fire families directly with the firefighters who serve our area.

  • Signature Local Gatherings: We love bringing our community together. From beloved traditions like our annual Chicken in a Barrel fundraiser and the Mountain Ranch Car Show to smaller neighborhood cookouts, these events give residents and crew members a chance to share a meal and connect whenever operational availability allows.

  • Neighborhood Goodwill: Fostering a tight-knit network where neighbors can show personal appreciation and support for local firefighters outside of emergency situations.

3. Volunteer & Associate Programs

Our organization brings firefighters and local supporters together in a collaborative, volunteer-led space.

  • Side-by-Side Collaboration: Associate members (residents, fire families, and supporters) work alongside active personnel to organize, run, and staff our community fundraisers and association projects.

  • Grassroots Leadership: Members take an active role in strategic meetings, helping decide how association funds are raised and allocated to best support the crew.

4. Real-World Outcomes (At a Glance)

"We don't replace official department operations—we enhance the lives and morale of the firefighters who protect us."

Note on Our Role & Transparency

The Central Calaveras Volunteer Firefighters Association is a separate entity from the local fire district. We do not provide official emergency services or required department gear; instead, we operate to support firefighter morale, camaraderie, and community outreach. Full meeting minutes and internal financial records are maintained for members in good standing, and our annual IRS Form 990 filings are available for public inspection.
